Police agencies readied a response as the Orange County village with a population of 3,800 served as the backdrop on one recent Saturday afternoon for a growing divide over LGBTQ rights across the U.S., even in places like New York. And the protests drew calls for counter-protests. The attention also drew threats of protests.
